Best Food Cities In The US

Even though most people think of big cities with the best food in the US as food hubs, some of the best food can be found in smaller cities and towns.

We’ve eaten our way across the whole country, from one coast to the other. Find out which cities we think have the best food cities in the US and if your city made the list.

The following cities received our votes as the best cuisine cities in America based on the criteria above:

1. San Francisco

San Francisco | Best Food Cities In The US

San Francisco is a jumbled mix of colorful neighborhoods and beautiful views that attracts people with an eye for edgy art, a taste for unique food, and a desire to try new things. It’s not a big surprise that Tony Bennett left his heart here.

There are a lot of things to do in the city: jaw-dropping sights, world-class food, cozy cafes, and lots of places where the nightlife is going strong. Spend an hour or two sunbathing on the bay with the sea lions, walking along the Marina, or looking at the city from Twin Peaks. San Francisco is one of the best cuisine cities in America.

And if you want to know what San Francisco is all about, ride a cable car or take a boat tour that goes under the Golden Gate Bridge. People often say that San Francisco is like Los Angeles’s more refined northern cousin. This is because San Francisco is small and cool, while Los Angeles is big and busy.

Here, you’ll find a patchwork of cultures growing in San Francisco’s many interesting neighborhoods. Follow the crowds to the touristy area of Fisherman’s Wharf, which has great views of Alcatraz, and then head along the bay to the Presidio to see the famous Golden Gate Bridge.

But don’t forget to spend time in the Mission District, the Haight, and the Castro to see all the different ways people live in San Francisco. And when you want to get out of the city for the day, join one of San Francisco’s best wine tours.

2. New Orleans

New Orleans | Best Food Cities In The US

New Orleans is known for its buildings that look like they came from Europe, its mouth-watering Creole food, and its general sense of fun. And music is the city’s backbone. Jazz, blues, rock ‘n’ roll, and Zydeco tunes can be heard everywhere.

But for many people, Mardi Gras is the main reason to go. It is an over-the-top party with Carnival elements like masks, music, floats, and fun. Even if you don’t go to Mardi Gras, you can still find a party all year long. People party on Bourbon Street until the early hours of the morning, and almost every weekend there is some kind of festival.

Even though the BP oil spill, Hurricane Katrina, and Hurricane Isaac all happened in the past, New Orleans is still doing well. In the past few years, a lot of work has been done to bring back the different districts. You can found the most popular food in the US.

The Crescent City looks almost as good as it did when it was built. So, to start your trip, take a walking tour of the French Quarter, where colonial history and ghost stories are still alive. From here, you can go to the most important architectural sites, have a hearty plate of jambalaya, and go out for a wild night.

3. Chicago

Chicago | Best Food Cities In The US

To try all the food in the Windy City, you’ll need a few napkins and a few days. Deep-dish pizza, hot dogs with everything on them, Garrett popcorn, and Italian beef are all dishes that can only be found in Chicago. This city is known for its award-winning restaurants and beautiful views of the Chicago River.

It is often called the culinary capital of the Midwest. People have talked about America’s third-largest city in a lot of different ways over the years. It has a thriving arts scene, different shopping districts, and a wide range of places to eat.

3First-time visitors to Chicago are sure to spend at least a day or two looking up. The skyscrapers and public art in Chicago are certainly worth looking at: You’ll spend a lot of time looking up if you go on a Chicago Architecture River Cruise or spend a few hours in Millennium Park.

Visit the Skydeck Chicago at the Willis Tower or the 360 CHICAGO Observation Deck at the John Hancock Center to see the city from above. After that, dive into everything the city has to offer, from great museums to a thriving sports culture to deep-dish pizza that takes the word “delicious” to a whole new level. If you need help getting around Chicago, you might want to sign up for one of the best tours.

4. New York City

New York City | Best Food Cities In The US

There are a lot of things to do in the city that never sleeps, but before you leave, take a moment to look around. What’s here today will be gone tomorrow and replaced by something bigger and better. The city that never sleeps is known all over the world for its large number and variety of places to eat. The Big Apple has almost every kind of food a person could want. This food powerhouse also has a lot of Michelin-starred restaurants and chefs who have won the James Beard Award.

Follow the people who set the trends to the East Village and Brooklyn to see independent shops, famous bakeries, and cool coffee shops. After that, you can look through the stores on Fifth Avenue, look at the cutting-edge art at the MoMA and the Met, see a great show on Broadway, or eat at the latest “it” restaurant.

NYC is the most populated city in the United States. It is also at the forefront of food, fashion, and the arts. But don’t let the busy sights and sounds of the Big Apple stop you from taking in its beauty. Hire a local to help you figure everything out. NYC is one of the best cuisine cities in America.

Still, the city’s bright lights and busy corners invite you to enjoy every moment in New York, explore every nook, and make your own urban adventure. You can found the most popular food in the US.

5. Los Angeles

Los Angeles | Best Food Cities In The US

Los Angeles has a food scene that is both unique and easy to get to. This is something that not many other cities can do. Because the city is a mix of many different cultures, it is known for its love of fusion food. Los Angeles is the most popular food in the US.

And LA’s street food is so good that even if you don’t eat at a fancy restaurant, your taste buds won’t be let down (and neither will your wallet). We have brothers who have lived in La La Land, even though neither of us has. Because of this, we’ve been there many times and enjoyed the food.

We’ve eaten at enough restaurants in Los Angeles to know which ones we like best, even though we haven’t been to any of the city’s twenty Michelin-starred restaurants yet.

We think the best places to eat in LA are Chengdu Taste, Petit Trois, Pink’s Hot Dogs, and Zankou Chicken. On our list of things we want to eat on our upcoming trip, a meal at Nancy Silverton’s Pizzeria Mozza is at the top.

6. Charleston, SC

Charleston South Carolina | Best Food Cities In The US

Charleston doesn’t have a lot of different things to do, but it makes up for it with great low country food and friendly Southern hospitality. Authentic Southern staples and fresh seafood have made this small city known as a foodie haven.

The food is known for being comforting and sticking to your ribs. James Beard’s awards to three Charleston restaurants (FIG, Husk, and Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ) put the city’s food scene on the international map. So, if you want to go to the Holy City, you have to make reservations.

We did what they said and made reservations at FIG and Husk before we went to Charleston. Each dinner was delicious and elegant, with dishes made from local ingredients. But these weren’t the only tasty things we ate in Charleston.

Two staples of the Lowcountry, Okra Gumbo and She Crab Soup, had tastes and ingredients from the Caribbean and Africa. But even the cheaper dishes tasted like they were made in Charleston, just like the more expensive dishes.

7. Portland, Oregon

Portland Oregon | Best Food Cities In The US

In a city where fresh and organic foods are king, Portland’s food is always praised by both experts in the field and tourists. Because of where the city is, it has a lot of great ingredients, which chefs are using to push the limits of experimental cooking.

Also, you don’t have to have a lot of money to eat here: Portland has more than 600 cheap food carts. We were on a road trip through the US, and Portland was so interesting to us that we stayed longer than we had planned. Even though we were hungry, it was hard to eat all of the best Portland food in just five days.

We were first amazed by the city’s third-wave coffee scene, which was just as exciting as its craft beer scene. Specialty coffee shops like Heart and Coava gave us regular caffeine boosts, which let us see what the city was like from morning until night.

Portland has a wide range of places to eat because many chefs specialize in a certain type of food. For example, you can get Pacific Northwest food at Paley’s Place, Russian food at Kachka, New American food at Ned Ludd, and ice cream at Salt & Straw.

We also ate at ramen bars, noodle shops, and donut shops, among other places. One of the best food cities in the US.

8. Houston

Houston | Best Food Cities In The US

In the biggest city in the Lone Star state, barbecue is a given. But this up-and-coming food spot has a lot more to offer than just good food. The culturally diverse city welcomes new chefs with open arms, and it has become a place where Chinese, Vietnamese, Hispanic, and Southern food all meet.

We got our first taste of Vietnam at Nam Giao. At the Houston restaurant, you could get Hue-style food like Banh Beo dumplings and Cm Hn, which is a rice dish with baby clams, toasted peanuts, and sesame seeds. Then, at Crawfish & Noodles, we ate Viet-Cajun crawfish, which made the experience even better. One of the best food cities in the US.

To eat Texas mud beetles that had been seasoned with garlic and lemongrass was a big surprise. We tried our best to keep up with our Houstonian relatives, who weren’t new to this seafood rodeo, as we ate a pile of crabs that made our tongues tingle.

9. Las Vegas

Las Vegas | Best Food Cities In The US

Even if people didn’t gamble in Las Vegas, they could still have a great time there. The second choice is a bad idea, but they could still eat well without leaving the strip.

Even though many famous chefs run casinos like Carbone, Guy Savoy, Mizumi, and NoMad Bar, many of the city’s most charming restaurants are off the strip.

Some are in strip malls, and others are in the city center. There are many restaurants that serve Thai, Chinese, and Japanese food. One of the best cuisine cities in America.

We stayed in Las Vegas for a long time before and after our road trip. Daryl’s brother lives in Henderson, a nearby suburb, and has also been to three weddings in Sin City.

On our last few vacations, when we weren’t spending time with family, we went off the strip to eat. Some of the most memorable meals have been at the Black Sheep, the Sparrow and Wolf, the Lotus of Siam, and the Partage. One was an omakase dinner for an anniversary at Raku.

10. Miami

Miami | Best Food Cities In The US

We started our food tour of Miami with seafood at Joe’s Stone Crab and My Ceviche, which are both in South Beach, the famous beach area of the city.

Following the Miami playbook, we also ate at Versailles for Cuban food and at CVI.CHE 105 for Peruvian ceviche. Miami is one of the best food cities in the US.

But cool Wynwood found its sweet spot with places like Zak the Baker, Panther Coffee, and Salty Donut that aren’t too stuffy.
